Pakistan sponsored terrorism will be high on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's agenda when he sits down for talks with President Obama in Washington early next week. The PM leaves on Saturday for what is the Obama administration's first state visit. Around 20-25 Sena activists barged into the office at Vikhroli carrying iron rods and baseball bats, slapped the receptionist and started beating up journalists, including women. The Opposition parties on Friday compelled the Centre to modify its decision on sugarcane pricing. The government will bring a new bill in Parliament, expected on Monday, that will shift the burden of certain payments to farmers on sugarcane purchases from state governments to sugar mills. Deputy leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and RLD leader Ajit Singh, who had spearheaded the farmers' stir, welcomed the government's decision.

Congressional Democrats could be careening toward a head-on collision with the White House over $200 billion in leftover bailout money — money that Republicans think should simply be returned to taxpayers (hat tip: Black & Right ). The Treasury Department wants to use the money to pay down the deficit and keep a small rainy-day fund in case of economic catastrophe. Maize flour is selling at Rs 20 a kilo, which is almost double of what it was last year. And Amar Kaur is finding it tough these days to give her family the flavour of the season. Despite winter setting in, she is unable to make Makki ki Roti and Sarson da Saag .

In the last 20 years I couldn't buy chicken and eat. Now even Maize flour is getting expensive. What will we eat? How can farmers afford this   -Balbir Singh
